As Tiger Woods gets ready for his return to the PGA Tour, he took some time to play golf with former President Donald Trump in South Florida. The two teed off on Sunday morning at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, just days before Woods is set to compete at Torrey Pines, his first official PGA Tour event since The Open.

Trump, who will attend the Super Bowl later that evening in New Orleans, added another event to his busy schedule. Woods, who has won eight times at Torrey Pines, will also head to San Diego for the Genesis Invitational next week after the tournament was moved from Los Angeles due to a fire.
Woods has not completed a full 72-hole tournament since last year’s Masters. His name has also come up in talks between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, with Trump meeting PGA officials recently to discuss the future of professional golf.

A PGA Tour statement thanked Trump for helping move negotiations forward, saying, “We are thankful that [Trump’s] leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for reunification of men’s professional golf.”
Woods also shared sad news on Tuesday, announcing the death of his mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 80. “My mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply irrefutable,” Woods said in an emotional statement. “She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter—without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

Trump offered his condolences on social media, saying, “Kultida Woods was an amazing influence on Tiger and gave him much of his strength and brilliance. Melania and I send our love and prayers to Tiger and his incredible family!” Trump and Woods have been friends for years, with Trump awarding Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019.
