
On Tuesday, India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at eight locations in Bengaluru as part of an investigation into foreign exchange violations linked to the Open Society Foundations (OSF), established by American billionaire George Soros, and its impact investment branch, the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF). The searches were conducted under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and focused on OSF, along with several international human rights organizations.
Sources informed Indian media that the investigation involves scrutiny of the financial operations of these organizations. The raids are part of broader efforts to examine potential violations concerning foreign funding and currency regulations in India.
