During a historic moment at the Pope’s funeral, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky held a surprise 15-minute one-on-one discussion inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Zelensky described the conversation as “good” and potentially historic, with hopes it could lead to real peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine. The White House also called it a “very productive discussion.”
However, hours later, Trump took to Truth Social to blast Vladimir Putin, accusing him of “stringing him along” amid continued Russian attacks. Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff recently met with Putin in a three-hour session that was described as “constructive,” aimed at narrowing the gap between Russian and U.S. positions. The Vatican funeral was attended by hundreds of world leaders and thousands of mourners, making the event both politically and emotionally significant.
