
The Republican-controlled Senate approved a budget plan that strongly supports former President Donald Trump’s legislative goals. The blueprint includes a permanent extension of his 2017 tax cuts and allocates $175 billion for new border security initiatives.
The resolution passed narrowly, 51 to 48, with GOP Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine voting against it alongside Democrats. The vote took place around 2:30 a.m. following a lengthy “vote-a-rama” session, during which Democrats introduced a series of politically sensitive amendments on topics like entitlement programs, government efficiency, and Trump’s tariffs, forcing Republicans to take public positions on each.
