Donald Trump’s Addiction to Diet Coke

In an unexpected turn, former President Donald Trump has returned to the White House for a second term, making history as the oldest president at 78. While his political comeback is a big deal, what has really caught the public’s attention is the return of his famous “Diet Coke button.” This button, which was a fixture during his first term, is back in the Oval Office and continues to spark reactions.

The Diet Coke button is a symbol of Trump’s long-standing habit. When pressed, it calls for a staff member to bring him a Diet Coke. During his first term, it became a well-known part of his routine and attracted media attention. When President Joe Biden took office, the button was removed, symbolizing a change in preferences—Biden is known for liking coffee, not soda. But with Trump back in power, the button has made a comeback.

Along with the Diet Coke button, Trump’s return to the Oval Office also brings a nostalgic look at the decor from his first term. The office now includes portraits of historical figures and a bust of Winston Churchill, evoking a sense of tradition and continuity. The Diet Coke button, placed prominently on his desk, remains a talking point for visitors.

Trump’s use of call buttons in the Oval Office isn’t new. Past presidents have used them for various needs, but Trump’s button is specifically for his soda. It reflects his need for routine and his fast-paced lifestyle, often skipping meals in favor of quick snacks. Diet Coke became a simple indulgence for him, keeping him alert without the added calories of food.

The most surprising aspect of Trump’s Diet Coke habit is how much he drinks. Reports suggest that Trump consumes between 8 and 12 cans a day. In 2017, The New York Times reported his intake as high as 12 cans daily, which shocked many. Health experts have raised concerns about the effects of consuming so much Diet Coke, particularly due to the artificial sweeteners like aspartame that it contains.

Trump has defended his habit, claiming that Diet Coke doesn’t negatively affect his health. He even jokes about it, calling it harmless. Public reactions vary, with some finding it amusing and others questioning the impact on his health. Regardless, Trump remains unapologetic about his Diet Coke routine, and as his second term continues, it seems unlikely he will be cutting back anytime soon.
