Officer Risks His Life to Save His Wife in Crash, Then a Miracle Happens Weeks Later

On August 1, off-duty deputies Lucas and Nicole Shoffner were hit by a car while fixing a dirt bike. The driver was Raymond Surber, a deputy from Campbell County. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office asked for prayers for the injured deputies.

Lucas took the hardest hit but saved Nicole by pushing her out of the way. He is in critical condition with head injuries and in a medically induced coma. His old department, Loudon County, sent their support.

Raymond Surber, the driver, has worked with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office since 2012. The accident has shaken the law enforcement community.

Nicole shared that after 40 days in the ICU, Lucas is starting his recovery. The community continues to support the Shoffners.
