
Michelle King, the top official at the Social Security Administration, resigned over the weekend after Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency requested access to private records of Americans. King, who had served as acting commissioner for 30 years and oversaw benefits for 73 million retirees and disabled individuals, stepped down, as reported by USA Today and confirmed by the White House.
In the wake of her departure, President Trump appointed Leland Dudek, who previously led Social Security’s anti-fraud office, as acting commissioner. Trump also nominated Frank Bisignano, president and CEO of Fiserv, to take over as the full-time commissioner, though Bisignano’s appointment still requires Senate confirmation.
