Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old Nigerian cardiologist in the US, reportedly took his own life on January 26, 2025, after a court ordered him to pay $15,000 a month in child support to his ex-wife. This followed a lengthy divorce and custody battle.
Sources say he shot himself after struggling with high legal fees and losing his medical license due to the case. Clayton Udo, an expert in mental abuse, confirmed the tragedy and criticized the court’s ruling.
Obim Onujiogu, a member of the Nigerian community, remembered Erinne as a kind and devoted man. He shared the sad news of his passing on Facebook.
Erinne is survived by his children, Ugonna and Munachi, as well as his parents and siblings. A memorial service was held in Elkridge, MD, on February 3, 2025.
