A 10-year-old boy, Dakota Levi Stevens, died after his 48-year-old foster mother, Jennifer Lee Wilson, allegedly sat on him for misbehaving. Wilson, who has been charged with reckless homicide, said Dakota ran away earlier in the day but was found at a neighbor’s house.

When they returned home, Dakota reportedly threw himself on the ground and began misbehaving. Wilson then allegedly sat on him for about five minutes while on the phone with his case worker.

Wilson claimed she thought Dakota was pretending when he went quiet. When she rolled him over, she noticed his eyelids were unusually pale.

Another child in the house quickly called emergency services, but by the time they arrived, Dakota had stopped breathing and had no pulse. He was airlifted to the hospital but remained on life support for two days before passing away.

An autopsy revealed Dakota suffered catastrophic injuries, including organ damage and internal bleeding. The cause of death was determined to be mechanical asphyxia.
