A Democratic county official near Chicago is facing national attention after reportedly hitting a child with her car and leaving the scene. The incident involved Jackie Traynere, a member of the Will County Board.
According to eyewitnesses, the child was riding his bicycle from a nearby sidewalk and entered the crosswalk while southbound traffic was stopped. Traynere’s vehicle made an illegal turn and struck the child as he crossed.
Traynere was issued a ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way but was not charged with any further violations. The case has sparked controversy given her position and the circumstances of the accident.
