US President Donald Trump has commented on the tragic mass shooting at Florida State University on Thursday (17 April)
Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on gun laws following a tragic mass shooting at Florida State University on April 17, where a student used his police officer mother’s gun to kill two people and injure six others. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, was shot and wounded by police after refusing to comply with commands. The two victims who died have not been identified, but police confirmed they were not students.
In response to questions about gun legislation, Trump reiterated his strong support for the Second Amendment, stating, “I’m a big advocate of the Second Amendment, I have been from the beginning. I protected it.” He acknowledged the severity of the incident but emphasized that it’s not the gun itself but the people who commit these acts. Trump said he would have more to say about the specifics of the incident later, but made it clear that he would continue to defend the Second Amendment.
This isn’t the first shooting at the university, with a previous incident involving a graduate who injured three people before being shot by police. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expressed support for the FSU community, saying, “Our prayers are with our FSU family.”
