Seventeen-year-old Austin Metcalf, a student-athlete from Frisco, Texas, tragically lost his life on April 2 after being stabbed during a track meet. The incident followed an altercation with another student, Anthony Karmel. Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, was present and held him in his arms as he died.
Austin was remembered as a dedicated athlete, a compassionate leader, and a kind soul. His mother, Meghan, shared her heartbreak and urged fellow parents to never take time with their children for granted. In the wake of the tragedy, the local community has shown strong support for the family and is calling for improved safety measures at school events.
Anthony Karmel, also 17, has been charged with first-degree murder but claims he acted in self-defense. Despite the unbearable loss, Hunter expressed compassion for Karmel’s family, showing remarkable maturity in the face of grief.
