Two-year-old Charlee Campbell and her dog Penny went missing in Lebanon Junction for nearly two days before emerging from the woods. While Charlee was safely reunited with her family, the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the circumstances surrounding their disappearance. Charlee’s grandmother, Beth Campbell, expressed her amazement that her granddaughter was found alive, saying she was overwhelmed with happiness when the news came.

Beth praised Penny, the family’s pit bull, as a hero, believing that the dog stayed by Charlee’s side the entire time she was missing. She explained that when both Penny and Charlee were gone, she was confident the dog wouldn’t leave the child until they were both safe. Shortly before Charlee was found at a neighbor’s house, Penny had returned home.
Wayne Brown, who discovered Charlee, shared that he had been praying for her when he saw the girl in his backyard. Brown was particularly moved by the reunion, recalling a painful memory of his younger brother’s disappearance years earlier, which ended tragically. After finding Charlee, he gave her water and called 911, but he was left with lingering questions about how the child was missed during previous searches.

Law enforcement officials had conducted extensive searches, including a foot search from Brown’s property to Charlee’s home. The Sheriff’s Office used dogs to track any signs of Charlee or Penny, continuing to search for answers to the mystery of how the child had remained hidden.
Charlee’s family reported that she was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning for a check-up but was doing okay. Despite the happy ending, many questions remain about how Charlee had gone unnoticed during the search efforts.
