McDonald’s New Burger Sparks Outrage, With Some Calling It ‘Obscene’

McDonald’s is bringing a fan-favorite from Australia to the U.S., and it’s causing quite a stir! The Double Big Mac, a popular item on the Australian McDonald’s menu, will make a limited-time debut in the U.S. starting January 24. This massive burger, which has been a hit in Australia since March 2020, features four beef patties and a generous serving of the classic Big Mac sauce, offering an experience McDonald’s dubs “double the fun.”

This hefty burger has already gained a lot of attention, with mixed reactions from fast-food lovers. While some are eagerly looking forward to trying it, others are not so thrilled. On social media, many expressed their excitement, with comments like “Yum! I can’t wait!” and “I’ll take 3, please!” One person even admitted, “I’m going to eat one of those, then feel disgusting after, but I bet I’ll enjoy every minute.”

However, not everyone is on board with the Double Big Mac’s introduction. Critics, particularly on Twitter, have called the burger “obscene,” and some believe that it feeds into the growing health concerns in the U.S. due to obesity. With the U.S. having some of the highest obesity rates globally, some argue that adding such a massive burger to the menu might not be the best idea.

The Double Big Mac, which is packed with pickles, lettuce, onions, and American cheese on a sesame seed bun, is already a familiar item in several countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK. Some Twitter users highlighted its availability in other countries, with one remarking, “You can get this in Canada, it’s deadly,” while another from the UK added, “I’m from the UK, and you can buy these here.”

This monster burger, boasting 680 calories, could also come with a hefty price tag, potentially over $20. This price surge follows a 14% price hike McDonald’s implemented in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2023. Though the Double Big Mac was previously available in the U.S. in 2020, it is making waves once again as it returns for a limited time, with fans and critics alike gearing up for its impact on the fast-food scene.
