Nancy and Jeremy had agreed to split everything 50/50 when they got married, including rent. Jeremy found an apartment, claimed it was $2,000 a month, and Nancy paid him $1,000 every month, believing he was sending it to the landlord. For two years, everything seemed normal until one December evening when Nancy was stuck in an elevator with a neighbor, who casually mentioned that the apartment belonged to Jeremy’s mother, Mrs. Lorrie.
