Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced on Friday that she will not run for re-election. Though she initially planned to seek a third term, she later reconsidered whether she could fully commit to serving through early 2031.
Reynolds, who turns 66 in August, said she’s proud of the work she’s done as governor and has been grateful for the opportunity to lead. However, she confirmed that once her current term ends in 2027, she will step away from public office. Her seat will be on the ballot in 2026.
Reflecting on her decision, Reynolds said it was her family’s years of support that made her leadership possible, and now it’s her turn to support them in return.
