The Story: I bumped into my elderly neighbor near our building entrance, and she asked me to check her computer because she couldn’t access any websites. When I looked at it, I saw that the icon showed no Wi-Fi signal. Three days earlier, I had changed my router and password. I recalled that about eight years ago, she asked for my help because she couldn’t contact her son in China due to no internet. I had installed Skype for her and connected her to my Wi-Fi but forgot to disconnect it. I then informed her that she had been using my internet all along.
She asked, “What should I do now?” I responded, “Get your own internet. It’s only $4 a month. I’m sure you can afford it.” She replied, “Just set it up like before. You already have internet. Why not share it?”
Of course, I said no. She never thanked me for using my internet for all those years, and now she doesn’t even greet me anymore. But despite that, I still choose to trust people.
